Let's be honest, working out from home due to a global pandemic has not been easy. Trying to stay or get motivated to workout can feel challenging during these uncertain times. But, try to remember to be kind to yourself and take it day by day.
A decent amount of people still do not feel comfortable heading to a public gym due to covid; I am one of them. So, what was my solution? I decided to purchase a few weights and bands off of amazon. I claimed a corner in my parents living room as my "workout space"; and my dad gave me his old stationary bike. This particular stationary bike was used way before I was even born. So, it doesn't have any bells or whistles, doesn't even come close to resembling a Peloton bike. But, beggars can't be choosers and the old girl works and serves its purpose.
Since I am also a girl on a "beer budget" these days, I use youtube as my main resource to search for home workouts. If you are able to splurge on an online pilates, yoga, or bootcamp, monthly membership, by all means, go for it. However, I am here to report that there are similar workouts that you can find on youtube for FREE. So, if you are on the fence about whether or not you should plan to put some money aside for a monthly online membership, that you saw was advertised on Instagram, forget about it. Now you can put that money towards something else you need, like workout clothes *wink wink*.
You should never feel guilty for skipping a workout and it is very important to have a healthy relationship with food. Never deprive yourself of foods you love because that can lead to binge eating or an eating disorder. It is OK to have a slice of cake for dessert, even if you didn't workout on that day! Please be patient and kind to yourself because no one reaches their fitness goals overnight, or even in a few months. Depending on what your personal fitness goals are, it might take years to achieve them. Treat your body like a car; it needs fuel to run. The number on the scale does not matter nor does it define you.
In conclusion, it is not necessary to spend a lot of money to stay in shape or to get in shape. You do not need to workout like a crazy person every single day, for so many hours, to "lose weight". The recommended amount of times a week to workout is 3 to 4 days a week, for an hour. But, it all depends on your personal fitness goals. I recommend going on short or long walks as often as possible because it is great for cardiovascular health. Get creative! It is important to explore all types of workouts. You will find various workouts that will align with your fitness goals and body type. Do your research and see what works best for you. Lastly, before you start your fitness journey, think about your short-term and long-term fitness goals. Remind yourself that you need to workout because you want to be the best version of yourself. The main goal is to be mentally and physically healthy.
