We were all raised to believe that life is supposed unfold in a specific order to achieve happiness and success. The concept of following specific steps to solve a problem doesn’t just exist in our society, but also in our 8th grade algebra 1 math course. We were all taught that if we want to solve an equation there are specific rules to follow to get the “right” answer. Never forget - ”Please excuse my dear aunt Sally.” (1) solve the parenthesis (2) solve exponents. (3) multiply or divide. (4) add or subtract to figure out the solution. If you don’t follow the formula correctly, you got the “wrong” answer. I believe we all internalize this concept and apply it to life.
People believe that if you want to be happy, you need to follow specific steps. (1) start your career (parentheses), (2) move out ( exponents), (3) see what life is like on your own( multiply or divide ), and (4) find someone that is right for you. ( add or subtract & you’re all set. 👍
But, that’s not how life works. I wish it was that simple. Sometimes instead of solving step (1) first, step (4) enters your life when you least expect it. But, you feel like you can’t solve step (4) until you solve the first few steps. Are you going to pass up on step 4 just because you feel like it’s not the right time? In life, it’s possible to work backwards, everyone’s journey is different. Sometime solving a problem will feel overwhelming. But, please don’t give up so easily on any part of the equation. You don’t need to live your life in any specific order to be happy. Don’t follow a formula that doesn’t work for you.
You’re not a failure for going “out of order.”It is OK if you had to go back & erase some of your work, start fresh and try again, to find the answer. You’ll solve the equation eventually. And, when you do, you’ll be so proud of yourself for never giving up.
